Amphibians
Amphibians are four-legged terrestrial animals that can not regulate their internal temperature (they are "cold-blooded"). Because, like fish, their eggs do not have a protective amniotic sac, amphibians must lay their eggs in water where much of their early development occurs. Amphibians are in danger world-wide and California is no exception. California has 51 native species of amphibians. Of these 17 are endemic to the state and 39 (76%) and considered threatened.
